Easy Moong Dal Soup
A simple, light and comforting soup that is easy to prepare and gives you a good dose of plant-based protein. Perfect for a light dinner or when you want something warm and filling.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp moong dal
- 1½ –2 cups water
- ½ medium tomato
- ½ tsp ginger
- 1 small garlic clove
- ½ tsp cumin
- ¼ tsp turmeric
- ½ tsp ghee/oil optional
- ½ tsp lemon juice
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- Salt as required
- 1 tbsp coriander
Instructions
- Wash the moong dal and pressure cook with tomato, ginger, garlic, turmeric and water for 2–3 whistles.
- Mash or blend lightly.
- Heat ½ tsp ghee/oil and add cumin. Add the cooked dal mixture and adjust the consistency with water.
- Simmer for 3–5 minutes. Add salt and black pepper.
- Switch off the flame, add lemon juice and coriander. Serve hot.
Notes
Tips
- Use yellow moong dal for a lighter and easier-to-digest soup.
- For a thicker and more filling soup, use 3–4 tbsp dal.
- Add spinach, bottle gourd, carrots or other vegetables for extra fiber and nutrition.
- Avoid adding cream or corn flour if using it as a healthy weight-loss meal.
- Add lemon juice only after switching off the flame to retain its freshness.
- Serve warm and fresh for the best taste.
